Have you ever felt that your voice was lost in the crowd? That you can’t make a difference on your own? We think we have limitations, but we can evolve and transcend. This year’s Youth Leadership Empowerment Academy at the Pacific Rim Conference on Disability and Diversity focuses on the “we” rather than the “I” and attempts to empower each individual to come together in a communal effort to make a change. Together, we can accomplish more than what one individual may be able to do on their own. Come here some of the most influential and successful advocates talk of their experiences in advocacy movements, as well as the successes and changes that have come about because of the projects that they’ve been involved in. Hear experiences about breaking down individual barriers to work with Hilary Clinton on changing our nation’s policies, and transcending physical limitations to motivate thousands to reach their full potential. TOGETHER, we can change the way disabilities are perceived; TOGETHER, we can empower each other to strive to reach our goals; TOGETHER, WE CAN. It is our generation that will make this world a better place. We need to claim our voice, claim our hearts and minds so that we can create ripples in the world and live to full potential. Shame is history, stigma is history and we ARE EMPOWERED.
