This interactive multimedia presentation combines theory, rationale, and practical strategies to explore the use of hip-hop culture as an instructional tool to support student engagement and achievement across content areas. All work is grounded in an empowerment-based model of positive youth development that connects youth with communities. By analyzing the role of music in people's lives, we build upon research evidence to reintroduce hip-hop culture as a critical tool for growth in families, education, and community. Presented by global hip-hop ambassador and beat maker Dr. Elliot Gann (Today's Future Sound-Oakland, CA); and Dr. Raphael Travis, Professor, Texas State University, author of "The Healing Power of Hip Hop," (FlowStory- Austin, TX).
