Presentation Formats: Poster Session

General Information

 

A poster is a visual display of a program, paper, or project that is set up in an exhibit space during the conference and staffed by the creator(s). This year our poster presentations/receptions will be 1.5 hours long and be strategically located to provide maximum participation and well as a celebratory atmosphere. 

The poster session is a great opportunity for more personal dialogue with Pac Rim participants, in a relaxed atmosphere!

Illustrate your findings or information by displaying graphs, photos, diagrams and a small amount of text on the poster boards. Poster boards will be set on tabletops with room on the table for displaying additional materials  as well as chairs for participants to have more in-depth discussions with poster presenters. All materials should be prepared in advance of the conference.

The poster could be thought of as an illustrated version of the abstract with visual displays of data and small blocks of text that explain the project and support the data.  An effective poster can engage colleagues, start conversations, help foster collaborations and help researchers and community leaders network.  During a poster presentation session, the audience will be looking for a clear snapshot of the project so a good poster is focused on single message, uses graphics and images to tell the story, and is well-organized and sequenced. 

Poster Setup

Each poster session author will be provided a 36" by 48" (12" x 24" x 12") Tri-Fold Professional Foam Board, tacks, and velcro.  Authors are responsible for mounting their posters the morning before sessions begin and removing them at the end of the day. 

Important Information

  • Tri-fold poster boards and thumbtacks will be available at the conference for all accepted Poster Presenters and can be picked up from the Hospitality table  at the Modern Honolulu. Please see below for date and times of pick up and removal of poster presentations.  
  • Each Poster Board display provided will be uniform in size and each tabletop also allows limited space for brochures and handouts.  Poster Presentations will be 2 presentations per table set up back-to-back from one another.
  • No signs and/or posters of any type can be placed on the walls of the Poster Presentation room. The Modern Honolulu charges an extra amount to hang banners and this must be arranged in advance with the conference organizers. No type of adhesive tape, pins or tacks can be applied on walls, carpet or flooring.
  • Electrical outlets can be supplied but must be requested ahead of time, and there may be an additional fee that must be paid by the Presenter(s) requesting electrical services. 

Set Up and Removal Times

Posters must be hung in advance of the scheduled session day; presenters are only required to be present at their board during their assigned presentation time. All poster boards must be cleared in preparation for the next day or evening poster session.

Tuesday PUPU poster Reception party  Tuesday, 11:30 am - 3:30 pm   Tuesday, 7:00 pm.

Poster presenters are expected to provide their own poster. Conference staff does not have the equipment to print posters however the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort Business Center can print out if given advance notification. Please check back in August for more information.
