The Think Tank shares the mission of the Pacific Alliance to support Individuals with Disabilities (IWD) in
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Fields. As part of its commitment to increase the numbers of IWD in STEM postsecondary education programs,
and ultimately the STEM workforce in Hawai‘i, the focus of this one-day Think Tank is to generate ideas about how to augment participation of Wounded Warriors

The HeART of Teaching: Hawaiian Views/Practices of Teaching and Learning

This experiential workshop will
look at key ingredients of Hawaiian epistemology in the well-known song: Ekolu Mea Nui. Each aspect of knowledge, knowing and understanding will be discussed
and exampled within a Hawaiian philosophical framework. Educators are welcome to come with an open mind and willing heart to explore more of their own ancient
systems of learning/teaching within a cultural system relevant and needed in these changing and mythic times.

evolve and transcend. This year’s Youth Leadership Empowerment Academy at the Pacific Rim Conference on Disability and
Diversity focuses on the “we” rather than the “I” and attempts to empower each individual to come
together in a communal effort to make a change. Together, we can accomplish more than what one individual may be able to do on

by children with Down Syndrome in Hawai‘i. March 21, 2012 marks the 7th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day and for

Three Women and an Idea Present: Surviving 2012

experience aims at enhancing ‘survival skills’ through clever and inspiring workshops designed to help our mental
health community, our seniors and our families get past negative stigmas and get through 2012 with success. We are
offering scholarships to our mental health consumers in lieu of the registration fee.
