Hidden Disabilities
Making our Voices Known
The Hidden Disabilities topic area will focus on adults with learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD), psychiatric disorders, health conditions, traumatic brain injury and more. We will explore advocacy and policy orientations that address hidden disabilities within the context of inclusionary human progress for the 21st century. What needs to be done to ensure the social well being for persons with hidden disabilities? What do we need to advocate for? What are best practices already in existence that can lead us towards our common vision of an inclusive, sustainable and just world? Presentations will include people with hidden disabilities speaking for themselves using various creative formats. Also, we are hosting two special workshops—Video Diaries and a creative writing seminar on ‘autobiography.’ Stay tuned for these developments.
We have presentations that focus on personal success stories/role model advice, sustainable support systems, system change, social justice and policy issues, and successful trainings and projects. Presentations include:
