Autism

It does not end with the school day!

Much attention has been directed toward educational interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders. More limited attention has been directed toward the importance of play and leisure skills for this population. And, although children with autism do grow into adults, too little attention has been directed toward transition issues for young adults with autism as they move into their communities. The Autism Strand for Pac Rim 2009 promises to be as exciting and stimulating as in previous years. This year we will address a variety of issues. Part of our focus is play and leisure activities for children with autism. We will also touch on evidence-based educational interventions, evidence-based biomedical and behavioral treatments and services, and protection and advocacy needs for children and adults with autism spectrum disorders.
