Frank DeRuyter, Ph.D.—Dr. DeRuyter has been at Duke University Medical Center since 1995. He is Professor in the Department of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Speech Pathology & Audiology. In addition to his clinical and academic responsibilities, he is Principal Investigator of the NIDRR national Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Communication Enhancement (AAC-RERC) and Principal Investigator of the international Consortium for Assistive Technology Outcomes Research or CATOR. He has received almost $20 million dollars in external funding over the past 20 years.

Prior to Duke University, Dr. DeRuyter was at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center for 15 years serving as Director of the Communication Disorders Department. In addition, while at Rancho, he conceptualized, developed and directed the national Center for Applied Rehabilitation Technology (CART) as well as developed and directed the Department for Outcomes Management & Program Evaluation. At Rancho he also served as Co-Director of the NIDRR Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Technology for Children with Orthopedic Disabilities.

He has presented over 250 professional papers at international/national conferences and has over 60 major publications. He has served on numerous committees and advisory boards. His primary interest is in assistive technology, outcomes, program development, and performance monitoring.
