Employment: Building a New Workforce that is Inclusive and Innovative
Public and Private and Government partnership have made a commitment to work together with private industries to encourage and promote the employment of people with disabilities. Once an overlooked talent pool, people with disabilities are contributing to the U.S. economy in ways never imagined in previous generations. More than 18 million people with disabilities are currently employed in America’s workforce. Employing people with disabilities makes good business sense.

- Convened by the National Endowment on the Arts (NEA), Social Security Administration (SSA) and VSA arts national headquarters, outcomes and recommendations from more than 18 statewide career forums. The purposes of the nationwide initiative managed by the National Arts and Disability Center at UCLA are to assess the education and career needs and barriers for artists and arts administrators with disabilities; and to develop and implement strategies to overcome barriers and advance careers in the arts for individuals with disabilities.
- Employment and retention strategies on increasing the employment rate of working-age individuals who have a mental illness;
- The impact of the U.S. Business Leadership Network and its state and local affiliates on the advancement of disability as part of diversity policy and promotion of business to business networking;
- Impact on employment research and outcomes Center on Medicare Medicaid Services (initiative) Work Incentives and the Social Security Administration (SSA) Ticket to Work initiatives.
- How to improve employment solutions for corporate and small business owners and how to tap into this valuable employment resource pool and increased return on investment;
- Career development strategies for transition-age youth with disabilities and best practices that better their chances of getting and keeping a job after graduation;
