NOAA, FEMA, and State and local governments continue to partner to improve response to rapidly breaking extreme hazard events, such as fires, flooding, severe storms, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tsunamis. With each extreme hazard event, new best practices are put into place by responding agencies. This workshop will cover Special Needs Sheltering, case studies from other localities, including local transportation to and from special needs shelters. Also covered will be types of natural hazards, lead times for each hazard and what type of information and from which sources hazard information is available. Federal perspectives will be shared on what is new, what is different and what is changing with respect to planning for persons with disabilities, high risk and vulnerable populations.
Speakers
- Cindy Daniel, FEMA Disabilities Program Coordinator
- Debbie Jackson, Hawai‘i Disability Communications Access Board
