Risnawati Utami is a wheelchair user because of polio when she was 4 years old. She graduated from the Law School, Sebelas Maret University in Solo, Central Java, Indonesia. She spends most of the time to be an activist in the disability rights movement since 1999. She has been managing the diverse programs intervention related public health issues particularly reproductive health and disability to promote and to empower the rights of persons with disabilities. She also does independent studies, lecturing at the universities, writing book, articles and she has been the keynote speaker at the numerous disability-focused symposiums/conferences, trainings and seminars in Indonesia and internationally. She has been awarded the Ford Foundation International Fellowship to accomplish her master degree in International Health Policy and Management at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, MA, USA. Her current work is Program Manager of UCP Wheels for Humanity Indonesia. Previously, she has created the program development on reproductive health and sexuality/SRH related disability rights in 2001 - 2006 in Solo, Central Java, Indonesia. She and her team have published a book about SRH related disability rights in Indonesia.
